One question a week, for thirteen weeks. Keep a notebook. Under each one, that week's one small thing.
- Wk 01Where Are You?Write down where you actually are this morning.
- Wk 02Where Have You Come From, and Where Are You Going?Answer both on paper.
- Wk 03What Are You Doing Here, Elijah?Eat, sleep, then listen. Nothing else that week.
- Wk 04Why Call Me Naomi?Pick one person and stay.
- Wk 05Have You Any Right to Be Angry?Write two sentences: what happened, with names, and what it cost you.
- Wk 06What Is That in Your Hand?Write the other side of the ledger.
- Wk 07Why Have You Been Standing Here All Day?Name the one thing you've ruled out because of your age.
- Wk 08Why Is Your Face Sad?Point what you already know how to build at the thing you can't stop thinking about.
- Wk 09Then Who Will Own What You Have Accumulated?Write two numbers: what you need, and what would be enough.
- Wk 10Do You Want to Get Well?Take one small step you've spent years explaining why you can't.
- Wk 11What Do You Want Me to Do for You?Answer it out loud, in one sentence.
- Wk 12Do You Want to Leave Too?Write your one thing.
- Wk 13Do You Love Me?Feed one person, and hand one thing on while you can still watch.
- AfterIt Is Nearly EveningOpen your table. Ask one person in.
Tuesday
A short letter once a month, for the first year after the work ends. Each one takes an old story and one thing to try that month. It's named for the first Tuesday with nothing on the calendar.
